ADHD & Bored to Death…

After just one year, I was already seeing the occupational psychologist…

I had studied intensively for five years to land my dream job.

But after only a year in that role, I was completely done.
It wasn’t at all what I had expected.

The biggest issue? I was bored.
There was no challenge for me. It drained me energetically.

But then what?

I got support from an internal coach to find something else within Philips—at the time, the most innovative company in the Netherlands, and the place I had always dreamed of working.

Together with the coach, I tried to find another “box” I might fit into.

That was the start of 17 years of hopping from one new role to another new challenge.
But every time, I would end up energetically drained again.

Again and again, boredom hit. I couldn’t motivate myself to keep going in the system.

Six years ago, I decided to step out completely and start following my own path—outside the standard system.

I sought help from a coach. And the first thing she said, as I sat in session and began talking, was:
“Do you have ADHD or something?”

Back then, it didn’t quite land.
But over the years, it started to sink in.

I don’t fit into the system.
And I no longer want to fit into the system.

Because I don’t see my ADHD as a disorder.
It clearly tells me to follow my own energy and not to get stuck.

As soon as boredom kicks in, I need to pull the plug and follow my own energy and inspiration.
That’s what my ADHD is asking of me. That’s when I’m in my power.

Many of the men I guide have ADHD.
They struggle with it.
But the struggle lies in the fact that we don’t allow ourselves to embrace it.
That we keep our energy small.
Afraid of rejection. Afraid we won’t fit in the system.

But your ADHD is actually your power—the very key to breaking free from a system we never really wanted to be part of in the first place.

👉 So be radically honest with yourself:
Do you truly want to keep adjusting and playing small just to keep up with the rest?
Or do you actually long to break free?
