ADHD & Finding Stillness in the “Noise”
ADHD & Finding Stillness in the “Noise”
Music has always played a big role in my life.
For me, it was a powerful way to connect with myself and completely let go of the world around me.
And yet, I often kept my taste in music a secret from others.
Afraid of what people might think.
Afraid that my music would be “too much” for someone else.
It often felt out of place in the spiritual work I was doing.
Since my youth, I’ve listened to two genres of music that many would label as “noise.”
At least, that’s the word I often heard when people found out what kind of music I actually listened to.
During my own spiritual journey, I started to feel like I should be listening to different music.
I tried all kinds of things—heart-opening songs, calming handpan sounds… but my ADHD brain would quickly get bored.
It became an inner struggle I fought over and over in recent years—until I’d had enough.
I went back to the music I’ve always loved most: techno and metal.
Something many people won’t understand.
But for me, it’s the fast BPM of techno, or the tight double bass in metal, that soothes my restless brain.
Where others get agitated by this music, it brings me deep calm.
It gives me the feeling that the energetic brake can finally be released.
And it was only when I stopped fighting it and decided: this is simply who I am, that real peace arrived. This is what sets me apart in the world of spiritual coaching. I embody both extremes: deep stillness and intense energy, all in one.
Funny enough, last week I came across an Instagram post that linked ADHD and EDM (Electronic Dance Music).
Turns out, research shows that for people with ADHD, this kind of music can be incredibly grounding.
Something I already felt to be true for years, but it didn’t fit into the box my mind had labeled as “spirituality.”
But spirituality has nothing to do with a particular lifestyle.
It’s about connecting to who you truly are.
Daring to embrace every part of yourself.
And for me, that means fully owning the ADHD within me and openly sharing that music—
even music that many would call “noise”—makes me deeply happy.
And that’s what I want to offer you through this story:
You’re allowed to embrace all of who you are.
Don’t be afraid of being “too much” for those around you.
Life is inviting you to fully own those parts of yourself.
To bring your energy into the world.
